When FOCN Mastermind was featured in ThisDay, it highlighted how our mission to empower young Africans is successfully creating real impact. At Face of Congeniality Nigeria (FOCN), we launched Mastermind as a bold, practical program to equip young Africans with leadership, digital economy mastery, and community-building skills they need to thrive and lead within their environments.
Our goal is clear: to nurture young leaders who are ready to drive change in their communities and across Africa.
Here are five bold moves we made with FOCN’s Mastermind, as captured in our feature in ThisDay:
- Launching a Purpose-Driven Initiative
We designed the Mastermind program to address the leadership and digital skill gaps many young Africans face. In just two days, participants dive into leadership, entrepreneurship, and community impact sessions that leave them motivated and equipped to act immediately.
ThisDay highlighted how Mastermind creates a space for young people to learn, unlearn, and envision new possibilities for their lives and communities.
- Providing Digital Tools for Learning
Access is key to empowerment. To ensure continuous learning and digital inclusion, we distributed over 70 smartphones to participants in Opobo and Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
ThisDay noted how this step helped bridge the technology gap, providing tools for youths eager to learn, access online resources, and expand their opportunities. We believe that digital access should never be a barrier for any young person with the desire to grow.
- Building Community Changemakers
Mastermind is more than a training program; it is a launchpad for young changemakers. We bring together young people who are passionate about impacting their communities, giving them a safe and empowering environment to learn and collaborate.
As our founder, Obianuju Princess Duru, shared:
“We believe that true empowerment comes from equipping young minds with the right knowledge and tools to excel. The ‘Mastermind’ program is our way of inspiring the next generation of changemakers in Africa.”
Our vision is to see these young leaders step confidently into their roles as catalysts for transformation wherever they go.
- Focusing on Practical Skills
We understand that it is not enough to inspire young people; we need to equip them with practical tools to act. Mastermind sessions cover personal development, digital literacy, entrepreneurship, and effective communication.
Participants leave with clear next steps for their goals, the confidence to start small projects, and the skills to lead with excellence in their families, schools, or businesses.
- Creating Long-Term Impact
Our feature in ThisDay highlighted that the Mastermind program is not a one-off event. It is designed to create a ripple effect, where each participant is encouraged to share their knowledge, mentor others, and initiate projects within their communities.
By empowering one young leader, we plant seeds for many more to rise and contribute positively to society.
Why This Matters
Being featured in ThisDay validated our belief that FOCN Mastermind is a needed solution for Africa’s next generation of leaders.
When we empower young people with knowledge, tools, and mentorship, we empower entire communities.
We are committed to continuing this work, reaching more young people, and expanding the ripple effect of leadership and empowerment across Africa.
