How to Prepare for the FYI Conference Like a Pro

FOCN You Inspire Leadership Conference

Whether you’re a first-time attendee or a seasoned member of the FOCN community, the You Inspire Conference is not just another weekend, it’s a defining experience. A space where dreams evolve, leaders are sharpened, and vision takes flight. As we count down to Friday, August 29th, 2025, in Port Harcourt, this post will walk you through practical ways to make the most of your time before, during, and after the event.

1. Come with the Right Mindset

This isn’t just a camp. It’s a call to higher purpose. The most effective way to approach FYI is with openness, expectation, and intentionality.

Ask yourself:

Why am I attending?

What am I hoping to gain?

What can I give to others?

Leadership is not just about receiving, it’s about contributing. Whether you’re in the room with 5 or 500 people, every moment is an opportunity to grow into the leader you’re becoming.

2. Master the Art of Intentional Note-Taking

The FYI Leadership conference Attendees will be given a notepad. Use sections of the notepad to capture:

  • Key lessons from speakers
  • Quotes that stand out
  • Journal prompts for reflection
  • Personal action points

Don’t just write down what others say. Include how it makes you feel and what it’s prompting you to do next. Your future self will thank you.

3. Get Ready to Network Like a Leader

One of the greatest gifts of FOCN is community. FYI is a rare moment where we all show up- from Lagos to Port Harcourt to Kaduna, in one space, one spirit.

Prepare your introduction ahead of time:

  • Your name
  • What you do or what you’re passionate about
  • What brought you to FOCN
  • Create connection cards or QR codes with your LinkedIn, Instagram, or email for quick exchanges. People are your greatest resource. Don’t leave without making a few meaningful connections.

4. Start Journaling NOW

Waiting until camp starts is a mistake. Begin with these prompts:

“Who do I want to be after the conference?”

“What leadership habits do I want to leave behind?”

“If I’m leading myself well, how will that look daily?”

Build momentum now so that when you arrive at the boot camp, you’re not starting cold, you’re walking in aligned.

5. Pack Smart, Dress Well

Let’s not act like aesthetics don’t matter they do. Part of leading is showing up with presence. The You Inspire Conference is not just functional, it’s elegant. Here’s a checklist:

  • Dinner Dress (Wednesday, August 27 – Arrival Night)
  • Black or Gold Heels
  • Jeans (Blue or Black)
  • White Sneakers
  • Corporate Suit or Dress (for the main conference sessions)
  • Gym Wear for aerobics
  • One extra stylish or corporate outfit

Keep it simple. Functional fashion is key.

6. Get Familiar with the Schedule

Be punctual. Be present. From workshops to panels to spontaneous breakout moments, the best leaders make the most of every opportunity. The schedule will be intense, so staying organized is your secret weapon.

Pro tip: Set alarms for session times and breaks. Use sticky notes or planner apps to keep you on track.

7. Lead Yourself First

Let this conference be your mirror. If you’re struggling with clarity, discipline, identity, or boldness this is your moment to confront it head-on.“True leadership begins with self-awareness and ends with collective impact.”

Whether you’re leading a nonprofit, a campus project, or your own healing process- you deserve to show up fully.
