Nurturing Future Women Leaders: FOCN International Women’s Day Outreach at Government Secondary School Biyagi

Self leadership outreach for young girls by FOCN at Government Secondary School Biyagi Abuja

Self Leadership Outreach was the focus of the International Women’s Day engagement organized by Face of Congeniality Nigeria (FOCN) at Government Secondary School Biyagi in Abuja. The outreach brought together over 450 students for an inspiring session centered on personal leadership, discipline, and the power of self-development.

The program was designed to help young girls understand that leadership does not begin with titles or positions. Instead, it begins with the ability to lead oneself through discipline, responsibility, and intentional choices. By introducing these ideas early, the outreach aimed to nurture confidence and leadership awareness among students who represent the next generation of women leaders.

Leadership does not begin when someone receives a title. It begins with self-awareness, discipline, and the ability to guide one’s own actions and decisions. Self-leadership is the foundation upon which great leaders are built.

As part of the International Women’s Day celebration, Face of Congeniality Nigeria (FOCN) carried out a meaningful outreach at Government Secondary School Biyagi, FCT Abuja, engaging over 450 students in an impactful session focused on personal leadership, discipline, and self-development.

The outreach was designed to inspire young women to recognize their potential early and to understand that leadership begins long before adulthood.

Empowering Young Girls Through Leadership Education

During the outreach, the FOCN team interacted with the students in an engaging session that highlighted the importance of self-leadership, responsibility, and personal discipline.

The conversation focused on helping the students understand that leadership is not only about occupying positions of authority. Instead, it begins with the ability to make responsible decisions, build confidence, and develop the character required to influence others positively.

Through mentorship and guidance, the girls were encouraged to believe in their abilities and recognize the opportunities available to them as future leaders.

The session created a safe and inspiring environment where students could reflect on their aspirations and begin to see leadership as a path available to them.

The Self Leadership Outreach session encouraged students to recognize that leadership begins with self-awareness. Through this Self Leadership Outreach conversation, students were guided to understand that developing discipline, focus, and integrity today will shape the leaders they become tomorrow.

During the session, the Self Leadership Outreach created an interactive learning environment where students could openly discuss their aspirations, challenges, and goals. The facilitators encouraged the students to reflect on their daily habits, decision-making, and personal values as the foundation of effective leadership.

The discussion emphasized that leadership is not limited by age. Every young girl has the ability to influence her environment through positive behavior, commitment to learning, and respect for others. By focusing on self-awareness and personal growth, the outreach helped the students begin to see themselves as future leaders capable of shaping their communities.

Why Early Leadership Development Matters

At FOCN, we believe that leadership must be nurtured early. Mentorship has no age limit, and investing in young girls today is one of the most effective ways to build a stronger future.

The young girls sitting in classrooms today will eventually become the women who lead our universities, organizations, and communities tomorrow. By exposing them to leadership conversations early, they are better equipped to develop the confidence and discipline required to navigate their future.

Programs like this outreach are essential because they help young people understand that their voices matter and that leadership begins with the choices they make daily.
