Business/Project Overview
TechUp Lafia is a grassroots initiative that equips secondary school students in Lafia, Nasarawa State with practical digital skills and access to technology empowering them for the digital age.
The Problem
In Northern Nigeria, students often lack access to computers, funding, and tech training. Many have never touched a laptop yet are expected to write computer-based exams and compete in a digital world.
Aisha’s story made this real: she wanted to be great, had read books, but didn’t even know what coding was, until we met. She had no phone or computer, just potential waiting to be unlocked.
Proposed Solution
We offer hands-on digital literacy workshops covering computer use, internet navigation, and basic coding—and provide students with learning materials and tools (like laptops) to continue growing even after the training.
Goals and Objectives
- Train 300+ students in 3 public schools in Lafia
- Provide digital learning kits (laptops, guides)
- Establish school-based tech clubs
- Inspire and nurture future tech founders from Northern Nigeria
Target Audience/Market
Public secondary school students aged 12–18 in Lafia, Nasarawa State, starting with 3 schools and scaling to 10 by 2026.
